Vanderburgh House has values based on Christianity but also employs evidence-based treatments at its different facilities. We have always stood on the front lines, ready to identify and address the unmet needs in our community. Ready to help individuals and families with nowhere else to go find their way home. When individuals and families are safely housed, they’re much more likely to address their health, addictions, and other issues. It’s a “housing first” approach that includes stabilization services, emergency shelter, transitional and permanent housing, and case management. They also have an urban farming program that helps provide food sufficiency and purpose for the communities they serve, which in turn helps prevent many from falling into a pattern of substance misuse. Prevention
The great majority have histories of trauma, chronic substance use, and mental health issues. Almost half live with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and/or other chronic health conditions. Vanderburgh House Inc. is a collection of affiliated substance use recovery and mental health programs based in the Greater Boston Area. It has been serving the region for over 40 years, focusing on women and children, groups that have been underserved in terms of access to psychiatric care. However, the doors of this facility are open to all who need care for substance use disorder. When the only option for women who had been designated a danger to themselves or others due to substance use disorders needed a community-based treatment option as an alternative to incarceration, we were there to offer a solution.
